We are very happy to announce the official launch of 88mon — a service designed to solve some of the most frustrating internet issues in Japan.
Many users experience:
- Slow download speeds due to packet loss during congestion
- No ability to open IPv4 ports because of DS-Lite with many providers
- Poor or deprioritized routing to overseas servers
88mon was created to directly address these problems.
Why We Built 88mon
This service is the result of years of research and experimentation, guided by the question:
“Is there a way to overcome these problems? Can we get more speed out of our connections?”
In Japan, most fiber and mobile internet plans are “best effort”. Even if your contract promises 1Gbps, in reality the available bandwidth is shared, and congestion causes packet loss at much lower speeds. Servers on the internet then interpret packet loss as a signal to slow down transmission, which further reduces your speed.
88mon helps you “win” against congestion. Our servers maintain an uncongested path to the global internet, are resistant to packet loss, and push data aggressively to maximize throughput. The result: faster speeds, even during peak congestion hours.

Port Forwarding: Solving DS-Lite Limitations
Switching to IPv4-over-IPv6 (commonly DS-Lite) often improves download speeds. However, DS-Lite users lose the ability to accept incoming IPv4 connections. This creates problems:
- No remote access to home networks
- Inability to host game servers
- Connectivity issues with mobile networks or public Wi-Fi that lack IPv6 support
88mon solves this by converting incoming IPv4 connections and forwarding them to your IPv6 address — restoring these capabilities and opening up new possibilities.
Beyond Speed: Features for Power Users
We want 88mon to be loved by both technical and everyday users, Japanese and international alike. That’s why we continue to expand what’s possible:
- MPTCP support: Combine multiple internet connections with tools like openmptcprouter
- Geo-unblocking: Some streaming sites already work through our servers, with more planned
- International routing (future): Route your traffic as if you are in other countries
- DNS64/NAT64 (future): Add new ways to connect and use our services
We’re also open to customer suggestions — if there’s a feature you’d like, let us know by email or on X.
A Community Effort
As a new service, the success of 88mon depends on its relationship with our users. We hope to build a passionate community of people who care as much about their internet connections as we do.
Thank you for supporting us, and we can’t wait to see what we build together.
